Six months to fix a clogged steam wand, why did no one tell me the simple way?

I spent half a year soaking and poking my espresso machine's steam wand with a pin, but milk still came out weak. Turns out the tip unscrews and the clog was in the base the whole time, took me ten minutes after I found a video from a barista in Denver. Has anyone else discovered an embarrassingly easy fix after way too long?
