Pro tip: My dad was wrong about preheating the French press
He always said to heat the glass with hot water first before adding grounds, but after two years of scorching my coffee I finally skipped that step and the bitterness disappeared completely - anyone else ditch an old trick their folks swore by?

Wait, you're telling me I've been scolding my french press all this time for nothing? I literally felt like a mad scientist every morning warming that glass up like it was a test tube of liquid gold or something... and now it turns out my dad's "essential step" was just making my coffee taste like burnt tires. Funny how all those old family cooking tricks are just generational bad habits passed down like heirlooms. My mom's still convinced you have to rinse rice seven times or the texture is "wrong" but I stopped at three and honestly nobody can tell the difference. Maybe next I'll tell my dad his secret burger flip technique is actually just smashing all the juice out of the meat...

Wait, SEVEN times rinsing the rice? That can't be right, @amyh21 - I've never heard of anyone going past four, that's just pouring money down the sink. I'm honestly shook your mom has been doing that all these years, mine just gives it a quick swoosh and it comes out fine.

Used to be on team "rinse until the water runs clear" but you might be onto something with stopping at three. Is the secret to good coffee really just not overthinking it?
