My gooseneck kettle just gave up mid-pour during a big family brunch
It happened last Sunday, right as I was pouring for my brother-in-law who thinks all coffee tastes the same. The handle got super hot, then the whole thing just shut off. No lights, nothing. I had to finish with a regular tea kettle and the pour was a mess. The coffee tasted bitter and weak, which he pointed out with a smirk. I've had that Bonavita kettle for almost five years, so maybe it was time, but the timing was awful. What's a good kettle that can handle a busy morning without failing? I need something tough.

Ever try taking it apart to see if it's just a loose wire?

I read that Fellow Stagg kettles are solid, and derek_ramirez might be onto something with a loose wire.

Brother-in-law sounds like a classic 'I don't notice good coffee until it's bad' guy. It's funny how the one time a gadget messes up is always when you have an audience that's lowkey waiting for it to happen. I've noticed this pattern everywhere in life, not just with kitchen stuff. Like, your phone will die the exact moment you need to show someone a picture, or your car's check engine light only comes on when you have a full car of people. Seems like the universe just loves testing our patience at the worst possible moments. Hope your next kettle gives you a solid five years without that kind of drama.
