I finally dialed in my grind size by just paying closer attention to the sound of the grinder.

Realizing that little click between rough and dusty made my morning cup way smoother and took the guesswork out.

That bit about the "little click between rough and dusty" is spot on. I read a forum thread a while back where people were trying to describe the sounds of their specific grinders. Some guy had actually mapped out the noise for his Baratza, calling the sweet spot a "short, sandy crunch" right before it went silent. It's wild how much useful info is in that sound if you just stop to listen.

My buddy ignored the weird high whine his grinder developed for a week. When it finally quit, he opened it up and the burrs were shot. He totally missed the warning you're talking about, @dakotad97. Now he's hyper aware of every little noise it makes.
