Found out my local roaster uses beans from 3 different countries in their house blend
I was at Urban Coffee Roasters downtown last week and the barista casually mentioned their house blend has beans from Ethiopia, Colombia, and Brazil. I always thought it was just one origin, you know? They said the Ethiopian gives it that fruity note, the Colombian adds body, and the Brazilian makes it smooth. It totally blew my mind that they mix different continents to get a consistent flavor year round. Has anyone else been surprised by what goes into their go-to blend?

Read something similar in a coffee blog last week. Turns out a lot of roasters do this - they'll mix beans from two or three different places to keep the taste the same all year. Makes sense, crops can vary season to season.

keith264 yeah that makes total sense, I had a friend who worked at a small roastery for a bit and they told me they'd literally swap out one bean for another if a crop was bad, but the bag still said the same origin on it. Kinda feels like cheating but I guess it's just keeping the brand consistent.
