Vent: I used to copy-paste code from forums, now I actually read it first and it takes forever
Two months ago I was the guy who saw a Stack Overflow answer and just slammed it into my project without reading past the green checkmark. Last Tuesday I spent 3 hours stuck on a Python error because I pasted a fix from a 2014 thread that used the wrong version of a library. Now I actually read the whole answer, check the date, and run it in a tiny test file first, which feels like it takes 5 times as long. The upside is I haven't broken my project in 2 weeks, but wow is it slower going. Does anyone else miss the dumb speed of just pasting and praying, or is that just me being lazy?
Keeping a scratch file called test.py on my desktop cut my paste time way down, I just drop the fix in there and run it before it touches real code. Still saves me the 3 hour holes without the full slow read every time.
