Rant: I think code along videos are mostly a waste for new coders, plain typing beats them
I tried both when I started learning Python back in January. I watched a 4 hour code along tutorial and typed along with the guy, and when it ended I could not write a simple loop from scratch the next day. Then I switched to just opening the docs and typing tiny programs by hand, using a $12 notebook for notes, and in 3 weeks I built a little tip calculator on my own. Code alongs give you this fake feeling of knowing stuff because you are just copying what is on screen. Has anyone else tried learning without videos and had it go better? What did you actually build first?
