My buddy swore nested loops were useless, then I watched him write 40 lines of copy paste
I started learning Python back in March and my friend who has been coding for 6 years kept saying nested loops were a waste of time and I should just copy paste code blocks instead. Last week we were making a little times table program for practice and he ended up writing 40 separate print lines while I did the same thing in 3 lines with a loop inside a loop, and he just stared at my screen for a minute. So for the beginners here, what concept did someone tell you to skip that turned out to be way more helpful than they made it sound?
Dictionaries were the one for me. My cousin told me they were overkill for a beginner and that I should just use two separate lists and keep the indexes lined up in my head. That worked for about a week until I had 60 items and a typo in one list threw everything off, and I spent a whole evening hunting for it. Then I switched to a dict and the same data was one lookup, no index counting, no bugs from lists getting out of sync.
