I asked a guy in my intro to Python class why he kept typing print statements by hand and he said the tab key was cheating
This was in week 2 of a community college class in Tacoma, and I watched him type print("hello") letter by letter for the whole 90 minute session instead of letting the editor finish it. When I asked why, he said autocomplete was for people who never learned the real way. He also refused to use a debugger and just added print lines everywhere, then deleted them one at a time when it finally worked. I am all for learning basics first, but is fighting your tools for 10 weeks really teaching you anything useful?
Had a guy in my C++ class who refused to use an IDE and wrote everything in Notepad, then got mad when he missed a semicolon and spent an hour hunting for it. Same energy. There's a difference between learning the basics and just making life harder on purpose.
