Bought a $120 Python course and learned more from a free YouTube playlist

Last month I finally caved and bought a beginner Python course from some influencer with a big following. Paid $120 for 40 videos of him reading slides and rushing through examples. Halfway through module 3, I realized he never explained why we use functions, just how to type them. Meanwhile a friend sent me a free 8 part YouTube series from a community college professor, and honestly in two evenings I understood loops and dictionaries way better. The paid course had no real projects, just quizzes that repeated the same questions. I feel dumb for not trying free resources first, especially since the library also has a Python book that covers the same stuff. Has anyone else wasted money on a bootcamp style course and then found a better free alternative? I want to know what actually worked for you, because I'm scared to start over again with something else.
