Visited a big tool show in Chicago and saw way more touchscreen controls on the new machines than I expected.

olivia_carr7 makes a good point about the real time feedback thing. In my experience, that kind of data can save you from a lot of frustration when you're working on something delicate like hardwood or thin metal. Those screens aren't just for show, they give you a level of control you just can't get from guessing on a trigger. Your mileage may vary depending on the brand, but I've seen guys who do fine woodwork swear by that feature for avoiding mistakes. It's not a must have for everyone, but it does solve specific problems for sure.

Seriously? It's just a screen. My old drill still works fine.

You said it's just a screen, but I read an article that changed my mind. It explained how those screens give you real time feedback on torque and speed. That can actually help prevent stripping screws or damaging materials. My old drill works too, but the new tech seems to solve some specific problems I've had before.
