Vent: I ran the same 4140 job for 11 months and finally found the trick hiding in my own notes
Kept fighting chatter on the finish pass of a 4140 shaft every Monday morning, tried slower feeds, new inserts, nothing stuck. Then I dug out my old notebook from 2 years back and saw a note from a guy in Wichita: bump the RPM up 15% and drop the depth of cut just a hair. Been running that setup for 3 weeks now with no chatter, anybody else keep a paper log for stuff like this?
