Update: guy at the shop in Gary told me to stop using coolant on aluminum and I still think he was wrong
Last Thursday a guy named Dale at the shop in Gary watched me run a 3/8 end mill through 6061 and told me to shut the coolant off and run it dry with a air blast, saying coolant was why my chips were welding to the flutes. I tried his way on a scrap block and got a worse finish plus a load of chips all over the floor, so I went back to flood coolant and my parts came out cleaner than his. Am I missing something about dry cutting aluminum, or was Dale just set in his ways from running steel all his life?
