That one comment about my speeds and feeds really stung...
I was running a job in 6061 aluminum on our Fadal at work and this old timer named Dave watched me for a minute then said I was leaving money on the table with my chip load. He showed me how to bump the feed up 30% and drop the rpm to 8000 and it cut cycle time by 45 seconds a part... Has anyone else had their routine completely wrecked by a suggestion from a guy who's been doing this since the 70s?

Buddy of mine had an old timer tell him he was running his lathe like a sewing machine, too slow. Bumped up the feed rate and his parts started coming out way cleaner plus he got done an hour early that day.

I saw this YouTube video where this old school machinist was saying the same thing. He called it "finding the sweet spot" where the chips turn blue and everything just flows right. Made me rethink how I run my stuff honestly lol
