Switched from coolant mist to flood coolant on my Haas VF-2 last month
I used to run mist all the time cause I thought it was cleaner and cheaper. Finally switched to flood after a 12 hour job wrecked two end mills from heat buildup. Chip clearance is way better now, anyone else make the switch and notice a difference?

Funny how we all convince ourselves mist is fine until it costs us tooling. I had the same exact wake up call. Ran mist for years on my mill, thought I was being smart with the coolant savings. First time I switched to flood on a tough stainless job, I felt pretty stupid for waiting so long. The difference in chip evacuation alone makes it worth it. You practically have to sweep the chips out of the machine now instead of digging them out of a sticky mess.

Man, is it really that serious though? I mean, I've been running mist on my lathe for like four years now and I've had pretty decent luck with it. Maybe it's just me but I feel like people online act like you're gonna destroy your whole setup if you don't switch to flood. @oscarb71 I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, but I've done some heavier cuts with mist and it seemed fine. Like, the chips came out okay, not really a sticky mess. Idk, maybe if I was doing stainless every day I'd feel different. But for the kind of stuff I usually do, mist has been good enough and it saves me from dealing with a big flood tank and all that.

Mist really does seem fine until it's not, that's for sure.
