Spent $400 on a used Hurco and it really paid off
I picked up a 2005 Hurco VM1 off a guy in Houston for $400. It had some rust and needed new way covers but I put in maybe 60 hours of work cleaning it up. Now it runs like a champ and I can do 3D work I never could before. Anyone else have luck buying old machines and fixing them up?

$400 seems too good to be true for a working machine, even with rust issues.

A buddy of mine in the fab shop used to rag on me for buying old stuff but he was the first one asking me to cut some brackets last month. I found a 2002 Fadal that had been sitting in a barn for like 5 years, paid $200 for it, and after a new spindle motor and some wiring it cuts aluminum better than my new Tormach ever did. Honestly I was skeptical too until I saw how simple these old mills really are inside. Once you get past the rust and the greasy fingers theyre just iron and steel.
