Shoutout to the guy who told me to tram my machine after every tool change
Old timer named Dave at the trade school back in Phoenix said I'd save hours of headaches if I just got in the habit. I brushed it off for like 6 months thinking it was overkill. Then I had a job with 412 parts and scrapped the first 12 because my Z wasn't square after swapping a dull end mill. Has anyone else found a routine that actually sticks for this?

Old Dave knew what he was talking about. For me it finally stuck when I started treating it like the first step every time, not the last. After swapping a tool, I tram before I even load the next part. Lost a whole batch of aluminum brackets once because I thought "close enough" was fine. Never again. Three quick checks with an indicator beats scrapping a hundred bucks worth of stock any day.

Lost a whole job once because I got lazy and skipped the tram after a collet swap, never again.
