Shoutout to the guy who showed me my tool holder was touching the spindle housing, I owe that man a coffee
I spent three shifts wondering why my finish pass was leaving weird chatter marks on a 6061 aluminum part until a guy from second shift wandered over and pointed out the tool holder was rubbing against the spindle housing ever so slightly, and now I always check for that clearance before I even hit cycle start, has anyone else had a stupid simple fix like that save a whole job?

And that's honestly half the battle right there, sometimes it's the dumbest little thing that makes you feel like an idiot for not seeing it sooner. I had a similar moment where my roughing pass was coming out great but my finish pass looked like garbage, turned out I had a .002" burr on the backside of my insert that I didn't bother to check. Once you learn that lesson you start checking every damn thing twice before you even think about running the program.

Oh man, I gotta push back on this a little, @jordan330! I actually kind of disagree that it's always the dumb little things that are the problem. Sometimes you can overthink the little stuff and miss a bigger issue that's staring you right in the face. I've had times where I was so focused on checking every burr and clearance that I didn't realize the real problem was my spindle bearings were shot. So yeah, checking twice is great, but don't get so obsessed with tiny details that you ignore the big obvious stuff. Just my two cents from the other side of the shop floor!
