PSA: swapping my insert to the 45-degree side cut chatter down more than any speed change did
I used to think chatter on deep pockets was just a speed and feed problem. Then last week, a tool rep at our shop in Akron showed me I had my boring bar insert sitting on the wrong seat angle the entire time. I flipped it to the 45-degree side and the finish on a 6061 block went from scratchy to clean in one pass. I'm not sold that insert orientation should be the first thing you check, though, because most of what I see on the floor really is bad setup or a loose holder. What's the first thing you reach for when a cut starts singing?
