Pro tip: Never trust a 'simple' tool change on a Friday afternoon

I had to swap a worn-out end mill on our old Haas VF-2 last week. The collet nut felt a bit tight, but I gave it one more crank with the wrench. Big mistake. It seized solid, and the whole spindle nose got jammed. What should have been a 10-minute job turned into a 3-hour nightmare of soaking it in penetrating oil and using a cheater bar. Has anyone else had a collet nut weld itself on like that?

Man, that "one more crank" feeling is the worst. I mean, it's like a universal rule in the shop, right? I had something similar happen with a coolant line fitting that just would not budge. Ended up rounding it off and had to cut the thing off. It's crazy how a tiny bit of extra force can turn a simple fix into a whole project.

Ever try heat on something like that? Or did you just go straight for the cut-off wheel...
