I stopped trusting the setup sheet and started checking the vise myself
Three weeks ago I ran a batch of 400 aluminum brackets on the Haas at our shop in Rockford, and about 60 parts in the finish cut started walking on me. Turned out the vise jaw was out of parallel by .006 and nobody had checked it since the last guy ran the job back in March, so every part was getting pushed up on one side. I know it sounds basic, but I see operators trust the previous setup instead of grabbing an indicator, and that is how you scrap a whole bar of stock. Does your shop make you dial in the vise at the start of every run, or is that just something we do here?
