Blew a $400 spindle bearing on a Haas VF-2 last Tuesday

Was running a 6061 part at 12k RPM when it started screaming like a banshee. Opened the cover and saw metal flakes in the coolant, spindle is toast now. Anyone else had a spindle fail from coolant getting past the seals?

Yeah but here's the thing nobody talks about... those VF-2 spindle seals are actually designed to work with a specific coolant pressure. If your coolant pump is putting out too much pressure it can actually force coolant past the seals while the spindle is spinning. I learned that the hard way on a 2015 model where the previous owner had swapped the pump for a higher flow one. Check your coolant pressure if you still have the machine running.
