Why does nobody talk about the rain barrel setup that cut my water bill by $18 a month
My water bill in Tucson was $62 a month back in 2021, and I figured I couldn't do much about it since I rent. Then a neighbor showed me how to hook a 55 gallon barrel to my downspout with a $12 diverter kit and some window screen for the mosquitos. I filled three barrels during monsoon season last August and used that water for my little container garden all fall instead of the hose. Last month the bill came in at $44, and that is with two extra people living here now. The trick was tilting the barrel on two concrete blocks so the spigot sits higher and the hose actually drains. Has anyone else tried this in a place with a real winter, because I am worried the plastic will crack when it freezes.
