That advice to replace gas appliances with induction is overblown

My neighbor kept telling me to swap my gas stove for induction to cut emissions. I finally did it six months ago, spent $1,200 on a new unit. My electric bill jumped $40 a month and the food just doesn't taste the same. Has anyone else regretted making that switch?

Did you check if your house wiring is up to snuff? I only ask because a friend of mine made the swap and her electric bill stayed flat, but she had an older house with aluminum wiring and the contractor had to redo the whole circuit for the stove. That hidden cost plus the higher monthly usage could be why you're seeing a $40 bump. Also, with the food tasting different, maybe your pans are the issue - some induction burners need flat bottom cookware to heat evenly, and if yours are warped even a little it throws off the temperature control. Just my two cents based on what I've seen around here.

Wait, you said her electric bill stayed flat but the contractor had to redo the whole circuit? That sounds like a nightmare honestly. I would have been so mad if I thought I was saving money and then got hit with a huge electrical bill on top of the stove cost.
