Switched to a programmable thermostat 3 months ago and my gas bill dropped $45 a month just from lowering the temp overnight

I used to just leave the heat on 72 all winter until my neighbor pointed out how much I was wasting, has anyone else seen big savings from simple schedule changes?

Abby, are you dropping it overnight for like 8+ hours or just a quick few hours before bed? The length makes a huge difference.

Wait, $45 a month? That seems like a lot for just turning it down at night. My bill barely budged when I tried that.

Yeah the $45 drop sounds right actually, I saw almost the same thing when I started dropping mine to 65 at night. It adds up way more than you'd think once the furnace isn't running all those extra hours.
