Question about carbon offsets - was I wrong to dismiss them?

I used to think carbon offsets were just a way for companies to feel good without actually doing anything. But then I looked into a specific project in Oregon that plants native forests on logged land. They had data showing actual tons of carbon captured per acre over 20 years, and independent auditors checked it. That changed my mind a little, because it wasn't just a vague promise. Now I'm wondering if small-scale projects like that are more legit than the big corporate ones. Has anyone else found a specific offset program that actually passed the smell test?

Show me the audit details. Was it a third party like Verra or Gold Standard that checked those numbers? Did they track the carbon for the full 20 years or just estimate it?
