My 18 mile bike commute beat my old truck commute by 12 minutes and I still can't believe it
I started biking to my shop in Sacramento 4 months ago, mostly to save gas money. The first week took 55 minutes each way and I figured that was just the cost. Last Tuesday I ran my route app and the bike came in at 43 minutes door to door while my old F150 took 55 with parking. The truck was just sitting in traffic on surface streets the whole time. For anyone who thinks their drive is too far to swap, have you timed both routes side by side? It surprised the heck out of me.

Man, this hits home. I had the exact same double take when I finally timed my ride against my car route instead of just assuming the car was faster. Turns out sitting at lights and hunting for a spot eats up way more time than people realize, and bikes just cruise past all of it. My brain kept insisting 18 miles had to be slower no matter what, and the stopwatch proved it wrong. Good on you for actually running both routes side by side instead of going off a gut feeling.
