I thought city tree planting programs were a photo op, until I saw the shade data from my own block
I used to roll my eyes at the tree planting push in my neighborhood, figured it was grant money and ribbon cutting. Then a city arborist showed me the summer surface temp readings from my street in Fresno: 118 on bare asphalt vs 94 under the 8 year old sycamores. Now I'm the guy at the council meeting asking why the next phase skips the blocks near the freeway.

Did you ever check the temps on your own street, because I did mine and the shaded sidewalk was 20 degrees cooler.
