Heard a podcast about heat pumps and now I'm checking my window tape

Last week I was listening to a show while patching drywall and they mentioned that most homes lose like 30% of heating or cooling through gaps around windows and doors. So I grabbed a candle and went around my apartment in Portland and sure enough, the flame flickered at three spots I never noticed. The tape and foam strips cost me 12 bucks total and took about an hour to put on. Anyone else do a draft check with a candle or did I just discover something obvious?
