Had to choose between a heat pump and a new gas furnace last month

My old furnace died mid-January and I had to pick between a heat pump at $8,500 or a gas furnace for $5,200. I went with the heat pump since my state gives a $2,000 rebate. Install took two days and the house is staying warm even with temps in the teens last week. Anyone else make this switch and seen a big jump in their electric bill?

$2,000 rebate is nice but my electric bill did a backflip last month. My wife nearly fainted when she saw the first bill after we switched. Still beats freezing to death waiting for the gas company to show up though.

Went with a heat pump myself last fall and yeah, my electric bill definitely noticed. First month I was like "whoa, did I buy a spaceship or a heater?" But honestly the consistency is what sold me. My old gas furnace would cycle on and off and make the house feel like a roller coaster. Now it's just steady warm all day. The real shocker for me was when I accidentally left the thermostat on "emergency heat" for a week. That bill looked like I was trying to melt the polar ice caps myself. Live and learn I guess.
