Got totally shut down at the farmer's market for asking about compost
I was at the downtown farmer's market last Saturday, talking to this older guy at a vegetable stall. I asked if he had a compost pile for his unsold stuff, and he looked at me like I'd asked him to hand over his wallet. He said 'that's city business, I don't touch that stuff' and turned away to help another customer. It just stuck with me how defensive he got over a simple question about food waste. Has anyone else run into that kind of wall when trying to bring up small-scale composting?

Yeah, 'that's city business' is a weird wall to hit. Maybe he just didn't want to talk about it, or had a bad experience before.
