Got my neighborhood to start a compost pickup, 12 households in
Last month at the farmers market in Eugene, I was complaining to a neighbor about how much food waste we toss. She mentioned her city had a community compost drop-off, and I figured why not try it here. I posted on our block's group chat, got 12 houses to sign up for a $5 a month shared bin service. We're on week three and already filled two bins with veggie scraps and coffee grounds. Anyone else set up something like this with a local hauler or managed to keep a group going past the first month?

Damn, only 12 households and you already filled two bins in three weeks? That's a lot of scraps. We tried something similar with our cul-de-sac last year, but half the neighbors bailed after the first month because they kept forgetting which bin was theirs, and then someone tossed a moldy watermelon in there that stank up the whole alley. You got lucky everyone seems to actually use it.

The moldy watermelon thing would've done me in too honestly, but seeing how fast these bins filled up actually changed my mind about community composting working.
