The garage door thing is just one of those moments where you realize how much we rely on one small piece of equipment. My washing machine went out last summer and it took five visits because they kept bringing the wrong part. Everything is so specialized now that a basic fix turns into a whole ordeal. It feels like the world is designed to make us wait and pay more for things that used to be straightforward.

Broke a toilet handle at like 2am one time, thought it would be a quick trip to the hardware store for a $10 part. Turns out the model was discontinued and the replacement needed a whole new internal mechanism. Spent three weekends crawling under that thing with a wrench, watching YouTube videos, and getting sprayed in the face with tank water before I finally got it working.
