Thought I'd save a buck painting my Detroit Shoreway porch myself, ended up paying $600 for a lesson
Three weekends ago I decided to repaint the porch on my place near West 65th instead of hiring the guy my neighbor uses. I scraped and primed and slapped on two coats of what the guy at the hardware store on Lorain called the good stuff. Two days later it rained, and every single brush stroke on the railing bubbled up like a pancake because I painted in direct sun. Turns out the sweet spot is morning shade, not 2pm heat, and now I'm the guy on the block who has to explain his crusty railing to everyone walking by. Anybody got a painter on the west side who won't laugh at me when I call?
Man, I felt this in my soul. I did the same thing to my garage door a few years back and it looked like it had chicken pox for a whole summer. At least you only wasted $600, I'm still hearing about mine at Thanksgiving.
