The way I shovel snow has completely flipped in 5 years

Used to go out with a big aluminum shovel. Tried to clear the whole driveway in one go. Now I use a lighter plastic one and do small passes. This winter on West 117th, I finally figured out it saves my back and takes the same time. Anybody else change up their snow routine?

...and that reminds me of something that happened last year with my old truck. I used to think I had to clear every inch of the driveway down to the concrete, like the salt needed bare pavement to work or something. Then I realized I was just breaking my back for a useless extra clean look. Now I just pack down the snow with the truck tires a couple times, then shovel the paths I actually walk on. The car handles it fine, and my back doesn't ache for three days after a storm.

Yeah I switched to the plastic pusher a couple years back. I live over by the lake so the snow gets heavy fast. The trick for me was doing it before the plow comes through. That way I'm only moving 6 inches instead of the packed bank on the curb.
