Neighbor told me I was overwatering my lawn and she was right

I moved to Cleveland a year ago and I've been watering my lawn every single morning during the summer. My neighbor came over a few weeks ago and said I was drowning the grass and wasting water. She showed me how to check the soil with a screwdriver and now I only water twice a week. Has anyone else had a neighbor call them out on something that obvious?

Is it just me or is everyone out here just going through the motions without actually looking at what's right in front of them?

Honestly, that screwdriver trick is solid advice. But did she actually show you how deep the soil should be damp before you decide to water again? Tbh I feel like a lot of people just stick to a schedule instead of checking the actual moisture level, which is the whole point.

Yeah, that screwdriver trick is solid, I learned it the hard way after my neighbor called me out too. I started sticking my finger about two inches into the soil before getting the hose out, and it turned out half the time it was still damp from the day before. Once I stopped watering on a fixed schedule the lawn actually bounced back way better.
