My brother told me to skip the Gordon Square Arts Festival this year, and I'm glad I listened.

He said it's gotten way too crowded and the lines for food are over an hour. I went to the Edgewater Live concert instead and had a blast. Got a spot on the grass, could actually hear the music, and grabbed a slice from that pizza truck in like five minutes. Anyone have other suggestions for low-key summer events over here?

Half the fun is finding smaller spots" is so true, I used to chase the big events.

Ugh, your brother was right. I saw a post last week saying the same thing about Gordon Square, that it's a total zoo now. Try the Friday night movie series at Lakewood Park, they're way more chill. The library also does free concerts on Thursdays that never get too packed. Honestly, half the fun is finding those smaller spots nobody talks about yet.

But doesn't the bigger crowds kinda make it more exciting? I went to Gordon Square last year and yeah the lines were long, but I met people from all over the city and the energy was electric. Plus some of those food trucks had stuff I've never seen anywhere else, like that jerk chicken mac and cheese truck. I dunno, I feel like a little waiting is worth it for that kind of variety.
