Got sold on a local handyman after a bad experience with a big company
I needed some drywall repair on my kitchen ceiling after a leak, and called a well known West Side company. They quoted me $400 just to come look at it, and then gave me a $1,200 estimate. My neighbor recommended a guy named Mike from Lakewood Handyman Services. He came out for free, fixed the ceiling same day for $200, and it looks perfect. Has anyone else found a good local guy instead of the big chains?

Man, that's a huge difference in price. It's really frustrating when these big companies act like they need to charge an arm and a leg just to walk through your door. I had a similar situation with a plumbing issue a while back, and a local guy saved me a ton of money and did a way better job. It's nice to hear someone else finding a good handyman without getting totally ripped off. Mike sounds like a real find, I'm glad that worked out for you.

Totally agree, it's such a relief when you find someone local who actually cares about the work and isn't just trying to upsell you every step of the way. In my experience, asking neighbors for referrals has been the only way to avoid those crazy quotes, your mileage may vary but it's never failed me yet.
