Vent: My magnetic sweep cover failed on a roof in Des Moines
That $60 magnetic cover I trusted for a steep tile roof slipped mid-job and caught the edge of a vent pipe. It nearly took my brush and rod down a 30 foot drop, so I duct taped it to the pipe which wrecked the magnet housing. Has anyone else switched to a bungee system or do you just go with a second person spotting on tricky pitches?
Been there. I run a cheap strap around the brush and clip it to my belt loop for steep pitches, that way if the cover slides the whole rig just hangs there instead of going off the edge. Learned that after watching a rod bounce off a driveway and bend the ferrule. For the cover itself, two small vice grips clamped to the tile lip beat magnets every time on anything over about a 6/12. Still bring a second guy on slate or old clay though, one slip and you're done, no strap saves you.
