Tried a poly brush over a regular wire brush for cleaning flues
I used a standard wire brush for years on flues in Portland, but last month I picked up a poly brush on a whim. It got way more creosote out without scratching the liner, especially on the 4th floor walkup I did yesterday. Has anyone else made the swap and noticed a difference on newer liners?

That scratching the liner" part is actually a bigger deal than people think. I used a wire brush on a flue in a 1920s building here in Chicago and it flaked off the interior glaze on the clay liner. Next season the creosote bonded to that rough spot like concrete. Had to get a pro liner installed after that. The poly brush might not scratch but it also won't compact the creosote into that rough surface either. For modern stainless liners it's the only way to go if you want that thing to last past year three.
