Thought those ultrasonic cleaner gadgets were a gimmick for brushes

Bought a cheap $40 ultrasonic cleaner off Amazon last month mostly as a joke to clean my stiff chimney brushes after a nasty creosote buildup job. Ran it for 15 minutes with some simple green and the bristles came out looking brand new, no more scrubbing by hand. Anybody else had surprising luck with one of these things on their gear?

Did you throw them straight into the cleaner or did you have to break down the brushes first? Because I've got a few with those screw-on extensions that are a real pain to take apart every time. Wondering if I need to disassemble everything or if I can just cram a whole brush head in there. Also curious how the cheap ones hold up after a dozen or so cycles. Mine's at $40 too and the plastic housing already feels a little warm after one run.

Does the solution you're using have any special additives in it like a bit of dish soap? I just cram my whole brush heads in my $40 cleaner without taking anything apart and it's been fine for maybe 15 cycles now, no damage to the bristles or the plastic. The warmth is pretty normal honestly, mine gets warm too but hasn't caused any issues with the cheaper stuff I've thrown in there.

Read somewhere that the warmth is normal for these cheaper ultrasonic cleaners, something about the transducers just running hot. I break mine down, but that's just me being paranoid about getting all the little nooks.
