That Tuesday when a creosote log caught fire and I had to drop everything

I was halfway through a cleanout on a row house in Baltimore last week and a hunk of creosote fell into the basement, lighting up a pile of old newspapers, and the homeowner just stood there yelling while I grabbed the extinguisher - has anyone else had a close call like that during a routine sweep?

That friend of mine had the same thing happen... he was doing a regular chimney sweep and a spark jumped out, lit up some boxes they had stacked too close. He said the homeowner was just frozen, didn't even move to help.

Jump the poor guy right into a one-man firefighting show while his client plays statue. @tessa368 probably would've handed him a bucket and said "you got this" while scrolling through her phone. My buddy had a similar deal where the homeowner just stood there watching him beat out flames with a wet rag, never even pointed to the extinguisher hanging two feet from her. At least your friend's homeowner had the excuse of being frozen - mine just asked if he'd still clean the gutters after the fire was out.

Wait, so your buddy had flames shooting up and the homeowner just stood there like a statue? Was he waiting for a written invitation to grab a fire extinguisher or did he think the smoke was part of the decoration? Sounds like your friend had a hot time and the homeowner was just there for the light show. Did he at least get a free coffee out of it before the place went up?
