That $600 remote sweep drum left me stranded on a 3-story roof

I dropped the money on one of those fancy motorized sweep drums last fall after a job in Portland kept wrecking my arms on heavy creosote. Second use, the clutch seized up mid-flue and I had to hand-crank the whole cable back up while kneeling in a foot of soot. Anybody else have luck with the cheaper manual models, or should I just go back to the classic brush and rods?

Manual cable drum saved me, but rods still beat both for stubborn soot.
