Switched from a basic brush to a SootMaster rotary head for a stubborn flue

Had a job on a 1920s house in Cedar Rapids with a flue that always felt gritty even after a standard brush. The homeowner said it had been like that for years. I finally tried a SootMaster rotary head system last month, and the amount of fine creosote dust it pulled out was shocking. The before and after difference in the smoke test was night and day. Anyone else find a specific tool that solved a long-term problem you thought was just normal?

My buddy had a similar thing with an old farmhouse chimney. He fought with it for two seasons, always had a faint smell after cleaning. He finally caved and bought one of those rotary whip attachments for his drill. Said it looked like a black snowstorm came out of the thing. The homeowner called him back just to say the fireplace finally smelled like nothing at all.

That rotary whip trick saved my sanity on a stubborn chimney last fall.

That rotary whip trick worked wonders for me on a really tough job a few years back. I had this old coal fireplace turned gas, and the flue was just packed with years of crusty buildup. Regular brushes barely touched it, and I was about ready to give up on getting it clean. Then I tried the rotary whip on a slow drill, and it was like night and day. It broke through that hard layer in about half an hour, and the homeowner was thrilled. Definitely a tool worth having in the truck for those stubborn ones.
