Spent $200 on a 'premium' chimney brush that fell apart after 3 jobs

Bought this fancy brush with a lifetime warranty from a tool truck last month. First use the bristles started shedding, by the third job the head was just spinning loose on the cable. Anyone else get burned by one of those overpriced brushes that look good but can't handle soot?

Oh, I read that some folks say running them in a bucket of water first helps.

Did you try using it on actual masonry before the first job? I got one of those premium brushes a few years back and it's still going strong. The key is to break them in gently on a clean flue before hitting the heavy soot. They're not supposed to spin freely on the cable either, sounds like you might've over-tightened the adapter or the cable was twisted wrong from the factory. I've had good luck with mine after figuring out the right speed and pressure. Not saying yours isn't junk but sometimes it's how you use em that makes the difference.
