Serious question, how do you handle a creosote log that crumbles halfway up?

I was on a job in Medford yesterday, about 3 hours in, and the creosote log just broke apart near the top of the flue. I had chunks falling back down and jamming up my rods. Ended up having to pull everything out, fish out the big pieces with a shop vac hose taped to a pole, and start over from the bottom. Took me an extra 45 minutes. Anyone else run into this with certain brands?

Heard a guy at the supply house say some of the cheaper creosote logs are just compressed sawdust and wax. They burn too fast and crumble like that. The good ones have a metal wire mesh core that holds shape. I switched to ChimneySweep brand after reading it in a trade mag. Haven't had one fall apart since.

Took me three hours last week with the same brand, total nightmare.
