Question about those new fiberglass rods vs steel ones
I had a 6 month old fiberglass rod snap clean in half last Thursday on a job over on Maple Street. It was a standard 3/8 inch rod and it just gave out when I hit a tough creosote spot. Anyone else seeing these fiberglass rods fail way sooner than the old steel ones?

Same thing happened to me last month with a brand new 3/8 fiberglass rod, snapped right at the ferrule on a pretty standard job. Seems like the fiberglass just can't handle any lateral stress like the steel ones used to. You think maybe the manufacturers changed the resin mix to cut costs?

What makes you think the resin mix changed? Because honestly I used to defend fiberglass rods all day long. I had good luck with them for like a year straight. But @hugo_nelson nailed it with the ferrule thing. That exact spot is where my rod let go too. It was on a 3/8 rod that was barely three months old and I was just putting normal pressure on a tough creosote patch. Now I'm thinking steel might be the way to go again after seeing this happen to multiple guys.
