My rotary brush snapped in half on a job in Arlington yesterday
I was cleaning a 6 inch flue for Mrs. Patterson's house and the brush head just broke clean off after hitting a rough spot. The metal rod bent and the plastic housing shattered. Took me an extra hour to fish out the pieces with a magnet and shop vac. Has anyone else had a rotary tool fail on them mid-job like that?

Man, that's rough. I had the same thing happen with a 8 inch brush up in Medford last fall, the whole head just twisted off when I hit a brick ledge and it was a nightmare fishing out the broken wires. That's why I always carry a backup now and a good magnet on a string, because it's never quick when they snap.

Get a backup tool before you need it. That's the lesson here. Same thing happened to me with a garden hose last summer - snapped the coupling clean off and flooded the whole garage while I was trying to fix a sprinkler head. Stuff breaks at the worst possible time, always. It's like the universe knows when you're in a hurry. Now I keep a spare rotary brush and extra hose fittings in the truck. Just one of those things you learn the hard way in this business.
