Found out 25% of chimney fires start from creosote in the flue, the stat hit me hard
I was doing some reading on the CSIA site during a slow afternoon and came across a number that stopped me cold. Roughly one in four chimney fires comes from creosote buildup, which means most of what we see out there is preventable. What got me was how fast it can build up with the wrong wood or a cold flue, I've seen glazed creosote inside of a season. I told a customer in Franklin last week about it and she had no clue, she thought once a year was plenty. Curious what you all tell folks about how often to sweep when they're burning green wood or running a stove low and slow.
Me reading creosote stats on a slow afternoon like it's a beach novel, ha. Honestly I just tell folks yearly is the bare min if they're burning green wood or choking the stove down all night, and a lot of them look at me like I grew a second head.
