Brass brush on a 30 year old flue made me a believer in 20 minutes
Pulled a heavy creosote glaze off a fireplace flue in a 1970s ranch house near Ann Arbor last Tuesday. I started with the poly brush like always and got maybe a third of it. Switched to a brass bristle brush on a drill whip and the difference was night and day. The glaze came off in sheets, and when I ran my hand up the liner it felt like new metal. Took 20 minutes instead of the hour I had budgeted. Anyone else find brass cuts glaze faster than poly, or did I just get lucky with this one?
